The Smart 2.0 is the clever evolution of Mammut's intuitive belay device, offering extra braking power without complicating the belay routine. No levers, no moving parts – just a redesigned high-performance brake insert that interacts with the belay carabiner to block the rope reliably in a fall. Because it works on the tube principle, the belaying action follows the belayer's natural reflex movements, which makes it approachable for newer belayers while still satisfying experienced ones. The compact geometry pays out rope quickly to a leader, and when a climber rests on the rope, the blocked rope significantly reduces the force the belayer needs to hold. Mammut recommends pairing it with the Smart HMS carabiner, though any standard HMS works.
