Why we love it

The GriGri is the gold standard for belay devices, and the most compact and lightweight cam-assisted device in Petzl's range. When the climber falls or weights the system, the rope tightens and the cam pivots to pinch and block it – making belaying far less tiring when someone is working a route or hanging to figure out a sequence. Cam-assisted blocking also gives leeway in brake-hand position regardless of the angle between climber and brake strands. The ergonomic handle and 3:1 mechanical advantage from the camming mechanism give smooth, progressive descent control, easier on small-diameter ropes and requiring less effort on thicker ones. Rope installation diagrams are engraved on the device itself.
